Air Senegal Will Fly To New York & Washington

Air Senegal has submitted a request to the U.S Department of Transportation for exemption authority and a foreign air carrier permit so that it can begin scheduled flights. The carrier is reported to be discussing leasing, code sharing, and interlining with the authorized U.S and foreign carrier. Air Senegal plans to fly to the US by September from the Senegalese capital of Darker to New York JFK. The route will serve the West African diaspora in New York and Washington DC. 

Air Senegal has been expanding its network in the past few months and is now adding the United States. The route will be served using an Airbus A330-900neo. The three-cabin aircraft will offer 32 lie-flat seats in business class, 21-seat premium economy cabin, and 237 seats in economy. 

From Dakar, Air Senegal offers connections to Abidjan, Ivory Coast; Bamako, Mail; Conakry, Guinea; Banjul, The Gambia; Ziguinchor, Senegal; and Nouakchott, Mauritania. Freetown, Sierra Leone, service will also begin soon, the carrier said. Air Senegal will compete on Dakar-JFK with daily Delta service.

Lufthansa Focuses on East Africa Leisure Destinations

Lufthansa will commence flights to Mombasa on July 24. The route will be served on its new leisure carrier Eurowings Discover.  There will be two weekly flights from Frankfurt to Mombasa Moi International Airport (MBA) with onward flights to Zanzibar’s Abeid Amani Karume International Airport (ZNZ). Starting June 2022, the Lufthansa will expand the new service frequency to four times a week. 

Mombasa is the second biggest city in Kenya after Nairobi. Zanzibar is the fabled island 23 miles from mainland Tanzania. 

Qatar Airways to serve to Lusaka and Harare

Dubai Based Qatar Airways will start services to Lusaka (LUN) in Zambia and Harare (HRE) in Zimbabwe. Flights from Doha (DOH) to Lusaka (LUN) and onwards to Harare (HRE) will begin on August 6. The New service will be operated with a Boeing 787 Dreamliner.  The Dreamliner features 22  lie-flat business class seats and 232 standard economy class seats. The route will operate three times per week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
