The Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) has announced the first phase of the health insurance system in Qatar, in accordance with the provisions of Law No. (22) of 2021. The law mandates that all visitors to the state must be covered by health insurance during their stay.
The MOPH stated that the health insurance system will be implemented in phases, with the first phase starting on February 1, 2023. All visitors, including transit passengers, will be required to purchase health insurance coverage (QAR 50 – $14) before entering the country. This insurance can be purchased online or upon arrival at Hamad International Airport or the Doha Cruise Terminal.
Visitors who hold international health insurance are also required to comply with the new policy, provided that the insurance policy covers the State of Qatar and is issued by one of the insurance companies on the list of international insurance companies accredited in the country.
To avoid long waiting times and ensure a smooth entry into the country, the MOPH advises all visitors to purchase the insurance coverage in advance online. This will also minimize any inconvenience during their stay in Qatar.
The introduction of the health insurance system is a significant step in the implementation of the provisions of Law No. (22) of 2021 and aims to regulate healthcare services in the State of Qatar. The Ministry of Public Health will continue to monitor and evaluate the implementation of the health insurance system to ensure its smooth operation.
Visitors are advised to check the Ministry of Public Health’s official website for updates on the health insurance system and any other relevant information.
