After the gap of 20 Months, India will resume scheduled International commercial flights to all countries from December 15. However, there will be restrictions on the number of flights permitted from a country depending on its health risks status.
Popular Destinations for Indians such as the US, Canada, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Thailand, and Sri Lanka are allowed to have a 100% of pre-COVID capacity. Flights to Europe and Singapore will be allowed 75% of pre-COVID. China and Hong Kong will be allowed 50% of pre-COVID flights. India has an Air-service agreement with 109 countries.
The Health Ministry has designated 11 countries “At-Risk”. Flights to these 11 countries would be allowed to resume 75 percent of pre covid operations. These 11 countries are the United Kingdom, Singapore, China, Brazil, South Africa, Botswana, Israel, Hong Kong, Mauritius, Zimbabwe, New Zealand.
Countries designated at “at-risk” but without “Air Bubble” Agreement with India. Will be allowed to resume 50 percent.
The Decision to re-open comes amid concern over the new strain COVID B.1.1.529 detected.
