Portugal no longer requires visitors to present proof of a negative test result or proof of vaccination in order to enter.
The policies were stated to be applicable to the entire “national territory,” including the Azores and Madeira, on the Visit Portugal website, but they might be changed “in line with the course of the epidemic.” The nation is relaxing admission requirements, but face masks must still be worn on public transit, even in taxis. Everyone aged 6 and over must wear a mask when using public transit in Madeira, including on platforms and at airports. Masks are also advised in “enclosed places, and wherever the physical distance suggested by the health authorities is unfeasible.”
According to its tourism website, Visit Portugal, the nation loosened its entrance restrictions on July 1. Since July 1, Americans (and other visitors) entering Portugal no longer need to provide proof of vaccination or a COVID-19 test result that is negative. No tests. No vaccination certificate.
This brought it more in line with other European nations that have started to relax COVID-19-related prohibitions over the last several months. Portugal’s new regulations align them with other European nations that have loosened or abandoned pandemic-era regulations, including Italy, which in June removed all entry restrictions. Similar actions have been taken by other nations like the United Kingdom, Sweden, Iceland, Ireland, and Croatia.
